Gold Card

This card's design was inspired by CAS(E) this Sketch #133. I had recently bought a bag of various sequins, so when I saw this sketch, I thought I would sort out some of the gold-colored ones to go with this frame. I adhered the gold frame to the 5X7 inch card with glue tape and then used micro glue dots for the various sequins and sparkles. I used the plastic sheet from a stamp set by Gina Marie Stamps and cut the verse out to layer across my sparkly stuff. I'm disappointed that my clear foam adhesive shows up so distinctly, but I'm not sure what else to use that would pop up my sentiment without showing through the clear plastic. I really wanted to use a clear background for the sentiment so the gold sequins would all show through.

Ice Cream Truck Birthday Card

I've been wanting to make a card for the monthly progressive challenge over at Deedee's Digis this month. I love progressive challenges where entering one month earns a free digi stamp or free digi stamp set for the next month! What fun! I decided to combine one of the the "Ice Cream Truck" images from this month's challenge set at Deedee's with this month's sketch over at Cheerful Sketches Challenge Blog. The sketch looked interesting, and I had some fun birthday paper I thought would work well with it. So I bought the "Ice Cream Truck" set, downloaded the images into my Silhouette Design Studio software and then played with sizing. I thought about using the outline and coloring the digi myself, but the colored version matched the colors in my birthday paper already, so why make more work for myself, right? The rest came together quickly and easily. I cut strips of the 12 X 12 birthday paper into the sizes I wanted for my 5 X 7 inch card and snipped out the sentiment from the same paper. I glue taped the first layer down (the vertical strip on the left), used thin foam squares on the horizontal strip, used thicker foam squares on the top of the image piece with thinner ones on the bottom so that it adhered evenly on the popped up strip and the flat card part behind it and finally popped a couple of thin foam squares on the bottom left hand corner of the "Celebrate" sentiment.
This angle shows a bit of the layering to give an idea of the depth.

From the Heart Stamps I {heart} Sketches with a tWist #114

So for this week's challenge over at From the Heart Stamps weekly sketch challenge, I was able to use some summery ribbon that had been sitting in my ribbon box for quite some time. I tend to buy ribbon when there's a good sale and then forget all about using it! It was great to use some of it for this challenge. I chose 4 summery colors and glue taped them to my 5 X 7 card. Then I sized my digital stamps (the image and sentiment are from the "Lil Birdie" From the Heart digital stamp set), added a frame around them to cut them out, and did a print and cut of them on my Silhouette Portrait. I colored the image and then looked through my Spellbinders dies to find a good size for a mat behind the image and sentiment. I settled on Labels 23. After cutting those mats out on my Cuttlebug, I used glue tape to adhere the green mat behind the image and then foam squares to pop up the image. Inside the card, I used foam dots to pop up the mat and glue tape to adhere the sentiment to the orange mat.

Here's the sentiment inside. I had some small wooden bird embellishments leftover from another project and found one that fit nicely here. I used a micro glue dot to adhere it to the sentiment.
Here's a close-up of the darling digital stamp.
This is good timing for me as I know just the friend who needs some encouragement right now and would enjoy this card. I've always loved Jesus' words in Matthew 10:29-31: "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

Interactive Christmas Card

My original plan for this card was to have the angel be on a slider so the recipient could move the angel across the page. This turned out to be more problematic than I had originally figured! Due to wanting hills, sheep and shepherds to fit in the lower part of the card, I had to orient my 5 X 7 inch card vertically, making it narrower than it is long. That didn't leave much room for the angel to "fly" across the card, and the font for the sentiment I wanted underneath the angel's "track" would have been too small to read easily. So I gave it some more thought and decided to use Papertrey Ink's "Zipper Border" die to make a tear off piece with my sentiment underneath. My angel doesn't move, but the card still has a fun interactive feature on the front. I used silver card stock for the angel ("Vintage Flourishes Christmas" by Joy! Crafts) and gold card stock for the star (Joanna Sheen Signature dies "Christmas Stars"). The sheep are cut from a pearlescent white and the shepherds from a chocolate brown I liked. (The sheep and shepherd dies are also a Joanna Sheen Signature Die set called "Shepherds.") I used a stamp from the Papertrey Ink set "Movers and Shakers Sentiments" to make the "pull me" arrow where the recipient tears away the zipper portion to reveal the sentiment. I typed the sentiment using my Silhouette Studio Design software and then did a print and cut. I glue taped it to the back of the top front panel, being careful to line it up under the zipper portion. Then I glue taped that panel down, used foam squares to adhere the angel and the star, and then used foam tape on the hills (I made cardboard templates to use for these and then traced them onto the papers I wanted to use), and more foam squares for the sheep and shepherds.

Here's the card with the sentiment revealed:

Now for the inside! I wanted to test out Papertrey Ink's "Envelope Zipper" die, so I did some experimenting and came up with the dimensions for a 5 X 8 rectangle scored the narrow way at the 2" and the 5" marks. Then I die cut the mini envelope with the die on the 3" front panel (I used washi tape to keep the die in place) and keeping the rectangle flat. After die cutting the zipper part, I folded the envelope, put a small "ornament" inside, and used score-pal tape to close it up. Then I glue taped the back of the envelope and adhered it to the inside right panel of the card. The mini ornament was a print and cut I did with my Silhouette Portrait. I hole punched the top and made a small loop out of twine so the recipient can hang the ornament.
The stamps I used were from the Justrite Papercraft "Elegant Christmas Swirls" set and the Papertrey Ink "Movers and Shakers Sentiments" set (for the "Pull Me" and "Surprise Inside" stamps).
This is a photo of another envelope the same size as the one in my card. (I forgot to get a picture of the first one before closing it up and adhering it!)
Here's the ornament.

Tiddly Inks Challenge #162 - Summer Song

This week's Tiddly Ink challenge is to pair a favorite summer song with a Tiddly Inks image. I thought of the song from the musical Grease called "Summer Lovin'" and thought these adorable dogs would be a perfect match for the song. I chose the font "Henny Penny" for the "Summer Lovin'" sentiment and sized it for the top of my A2 card. Then I added an oval cut file around it. Next I sized my "Puppy Love" digital stamp from Tiddly Inks, did a trace of it, offset the traced version and then moved my offset outline around the original image. I did a print and cut of both the sentiment and the image and then colored in the image. The card seemed too plain when I put my image and sentiment on it, so I chose a Project Life card as a background for the image and then popped up the image with foam squares. I also used foam squares for the sentiment. The Project Life card was adhered with glue tape.

Another Imagine That! Customer Link Up

Apparently I have to do a separate blog post for each card I link to the Imagine That! Customer Link-Up, so I will just add my 2nd card here. I am just getting started with blogging and entering contests, so please be patient with me as I figure these things out.
The details for this owl card are all on my previous post. Here's another copy of the picture. I have a friend whose breast cancer recently came back in her lungs and brain, so I think this card is definitely going to her.

You can join the fun and have a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Imagine That! Digi Store. See http://imaginethatdigistamp.blogspot.com/p/any-it-digi-challenge.html for the details.

Imagine That! Customer Link Up

These two cards were made for the Imagine That! Customer Link Up which offers the chance to win a $10 gift code for use in the Imagine That! Store. There is no limit to the number of cards one may submit, but each must use an Imagine That! digital image.
Both cards take advantage of free digital stamps from the Imagine That! Store. The first card uses the "Sitting Penguin" stamp. The sentiment is in CF Snowball font. I typed it up, sized it for an A2 card, turned off the cut lines and colored it digitally. Then I made a curved rectangle box around it. For the penguin, I traced his shape and then used the offset feature in my Silhouette Design Studio software and combined the original image with the offset shape to do a print and cut. For the owl card, I used the "Give A Hoot" digital stamp set. I chose the colored version of the owl and sized it for an A2 card. This time I used one of my cut file frames to put around the image. The sentiment is from the "Care and Comfort" digital stamp set by From the Heart Stamps. I sized it and placed a cut file frame around it, also, and then used did a print and cut of the owl image and the sentiment. I used foam squares to adhere everything on both cards. For the penguin card, I used a snowflake embossing folder from Cuttlebug to emboss the black card. The owl card was embossed with a wood grain Cuttlebug embossing folder. I used my Cuttlebug machine to emboss them both and my Silhouette Portrait machine for my print and cut items.

From the Heart Stamps: I {heart} sketches with a tWist #113

For this card, I used the current sketch on the From the Heart blog. The "Happy Birthday" banner is a cut file I sized to fit an A2 card to copy the top part of the sketch. Then I used the digital stamp and sentiments from the Mouse Balloon set (this is a FREE set, by the way!) by From the Heart Stamps. I traced the image and then used the offset feature in my Silhouette Design Studio software and combined the original image and offset to make a cut file. Then, using the traced image, I clicked on "release compound path" and selected the balloon. I moved it aside, deleted the rest of the traced image and then colored the balloon yellow. For the sentiments, I sized them for the card and then created a curved rectangle around each of them. Now I was ready to put all my elements on the virtual mat, select "show registration marks" and print and cut my image, banner and sentiments. Then I colored my mouse image. I adhered the banner with a Zig glue pen and then used foam squares for the "Wish Big" sentiment and the mouse image, placing an extra foam square on the yellow balloon to pop it up. Inside the card, the "Have a mice day" sentiment is adhered with glue tape.

From the Heart Stamps July Challenge

This card is is made with one of the darling images from the Inner Tube Birdbrain digital stamp set chosen as the stamp of the month at From the Heart Stamps in July. I've combined it with sentiments from the Fishing Birdbrain digital stamp set also by From the Heart Stamps to create this "punny" birthday card. I downloaded the digital stamp sets and then imported them to my Silhouette Design Studio where I used the offset feature to get a nice outline of the image with a white border around it. Then I added rectangular frames to my sentiments and did a print and cut of the elements. I used foam tape to pop up the image and sentiments, and my card was quickly assembled. I colored in the image, and the card is now ready to give to my fisherman friend for his upcoming birthday.

Imagine That Digis Treat Stand Card: I Cherry-ish You

This card was created for the Imagine That Digis July challenge using their Treat Stand digital stamp set. I downloaded the stamp set and imported it to my Silhouette Design Studio software where I colored it in and duplicated a few of the pieces (the ice cream scoop, the leaf and the 2 cherries) to pop up with foam squares on the finished product. I added a rectangle around the sentiment and did a print and cut of the sentiment, the cherry pie digi stamp and the extra elements I wanted to pop up. Assembly was "easy as pie," so to speak, as I used foam squares for the image and glue tape on the sentiment and my husband's name.
