Hero Arts Back to School Shaker Card

I've been wanting to do a shaker card for an age, but I have to admit I was a little intimidated about making one. I shouldn't have been! It was fun! I think I'll try to make them on a regular basis from now on. That's what I've really enjoyed about starting a blog and joining different challenges. I've learned a lot of great new techniques.
So this card is on a 5x7 orange base. The red background paper and the school words paper were each cut just slightly smaller than the last so that all 3 papers can be seen. I glue taped the red paper to the pattern paper and cut out a window with my Spellbinders Classic rectangles. Then I cut out a piece of transparent cardstock with the next size bigger rectangle and adhered that to the back of the red cardstock with micro glue dots on the edges. I did a double layer of foam tape all along the edges and added some different colors of sequins to match my color scheme. Then I stamped the crayon box from Hero Arts "Good Work" clear stamp set and colored it with my Copics before fussy cutting it. I added that to the shaker window and then adhered the whole card front with foam tape.
I stamped the school bus from the same Hero Arts clear stamp set and fussy cut it before adhering it with foam squares. For the chalkboard tag, I stamped the chalkboard outline and the "Back to School" sentiment (also with the Hero Arts "Good Work" stamp set) with Color Box "Frost White" ink and then adhered the tag with foam tape. I added a few clips to match the school theme, and that's all there was to it!

Paper Smooches Christmas Card

I recently bought a set of Paper Smooches Christmas stamps called "Merry Motifs" and am in love with the adorable Christmas images! To make this card, I stamped the images onto vellum and heat embossed them with red and verdigris embossing powders. In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten some brighter green embossing powder, but up close this looks lovely with the little gold flecks in it.
I used a Kraft 5x7 inch card base and cut some red glitter cardstock as a background. I added some green velvet ribbon and a metal "Merry Christmas" sentiment before adhering my Christmas icons to the ribbon. They were die cut using a Spellbinders Square Swatches die on my Cuttlebug. I adhered the red background with foam tape, the ribbon with glue tape and the stamped images with micro glue dots.

Aliciabel Christmas Card

I wanted to make a Christmas card that combined a few different elements: it needed to use foil and embossing to qualify for the Wow! Embossing Challenge, it needed to have a sentiment on the front for the Monday Greetings Challenge at the Outlawz this week, it needed an Aliciabel image so I could participate in her challenge for the first time this month, you get the idea. It's nearing the end of the month, so I feel like it's crunch time trying to get in all the challenges I'd like to try! If I somehow could have thrown in craft paper and pumpkins, I would have tried, lol! Then I could have entered several more challenges! I'll just have to see what I can manage over the next few days and remember there's always next month!
To make the card base for this card, I used my Spellbinders Grand Labels 1. I had to get out my eBosser to have a platform big enough to fit the die, and I used 2 pieces of cardstock that I glued together to make the base. Then I cut a piece of sparkly red cardstock the same size and popped it up with foam tape to cover the base.
The next layer was done with silver foil paper embossed with Spellbinders "Roman Romance" embossing folder. Then I cut it with a Spellbinders Labels 1 die.
I had already sized the Aliciabel Christmas tree digi stamp using my Silhouette Design Studio software, so I printed it out and colored it with my new Copics. (My husband did a great job selecting a birthday present for me this year!) I heat embossed "Merry Christmas" onto some vellum with a Paper Smooches stamp and then adhered the vellum over the digi stamp.
Here's a close up of the embossing on the vellum over the stamp before I adhered it to the card:
I adhered the digi stamp to the silver foil using foam tape. I thought about centering the image but didn't want to cover the lovely embossing behind it! I felt it needed a little something more, so I added a snowflake from Spellbinders 2013 Snowflake Pendant set die cut from white pearlescent cardstock.

CAS Back to School Card

This card is using the same Back to School Snowman digital stamp set by From the Heart Stamps as I used in another back to school card recently, but this little guy is just so cute I had to play with him again! There's a Sunday CAS challenge over at The Outlawz each week, and this week the theme was "Anything Goes, so I thought I'd use this cute Apple paper and another of the flairs I won fromBossy Joscie last week to make this card. I tend to struggle with CAS cards. I like layers and embellishments and have trouble figuring out how much "stuff" on my card is too much for CAS. Hopefully this qualifies! There are definitely some gorgeous CAS cards out there. I just need more practice, I guess!
Using my Silhouette Design Studio software, I sized this snowman school child up and printed him out. I colored him with the new set of Copic markers my husband gave me for my birthday this morning (so excited to play with my new "toys"!), used Anna Griffin Glass Effects on his glasses and cut him out with Spellbinders Classic Ovals. I was following this week's sketch over at Viva La Verve, so I cut my background apple paper to match the size and shape of that element on the sketch. I used the "You are awesome" flair at the bottom (I'm thinking this would be a good card for my youngest to give to a teacher she likes) and added a few red candy dots on the top right. Voila!

FTHS Snowman Back to School Card

If you've been to the From the Heart Stamp blog or store recently, you know that Faith Skrdla is working on a project to make 100 snowmen illustrations. She has her snowmen driving cars, holding signs, hugging each other, blowing kisses and even going to school! These wonderfully imaginative digi stamp sets are only $1 each! It's definitely worth taking a look at her store.
To make this card, I used my Silhouette Design Studio software to size up the digi (the set is named "Back to School Snowman") after importing it, and I added the sentiment below it and grouped it with the image. The sentiment and the accents on the red paper were all included in the snowman file Faith created. There's also a sweet sentiment for a teacher in this set.
After printing out the snowman and sentiment along with an extra snowman to make the spotlight feature, I then arranged the apples, books and pencils to make a background and drew a rectangle around them before doing a print and cut of the background on red cardstock.
I cut out the image and sentiment using Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles. I stamped the "Back to School" (from the Hero Arts stamp set "Good Work") in blue ink on my 5X7 inch white card front. I popped up my red background rectangle with foam squares, added a border strip cut with Quickutz "Notebook Sheet" border die and then got to work on making my spotlight feature for my image. I colored the duplicate image I had printed with colored pencils and added some Anna Griffin glass effects to the snowman's glasses. Then I decided what part to cut with my Spellbinders Classic Cirlces die and cut that out with my Cuttlebug. I then adhered that "spotlight" circle with glue tape to the image on the lattice rectangle. I popped up the rectangle with foam squares. Then I added an accent tile I tied with orange floss.
Close up of the spotlight feature. This was my first time to try this technique. It was fun!

Deedee's Digis DOM "Leaf Your Cares Behind" Card

This month over at Deedee's Digis, the progressive monthly challenge set has 2 darling images of elephants playing in the leaves. She's also included some wonderful sentiments. I love puns and was delighted to use this "Autumn is the perfect time to 'leaf' your cares behind" sentiment.
The card base is an A2 shimmery light yellow card, and I sized up my image and sentiment to fit on that. I didn't have to digitally or hand color the image since Deedee includes the color images each month. So nice! I used my Silhouette Design Studio software to size and group together the image and sentiment and then printed them out. I die cut them using Spellbinders Decorative Labels 28. Then I used foam tape to adhere that to my mat which I had cut out using Spellbinders Divine Eloquence. I die cut a few leaves from watercolor paper I had previously watercolored using Twinkling H2Os autumn colors (the dies are from Our Daily Bread Fall Leaf and Acorn die set).

Christmas Ornament Card

I think I may have an addiction to dies! I keep telling myself I have enough already, and then I see soma new set and picture all sorts of lovely ways to use those dies on cards, and suddenly I have to buy more magnetic sheets and cases because I have too many dies to fit in the cases I have!
Well, last week at the craft outlet where I like to shop, they had the memory category on sale. That means dies, cardstock, embellishments, adhesives, MEXPY markers, etc. were 70% off retail price. Plus it's my birthday this month, so I had an excuse to buy some new things, including the gorgeous dies I used for this card (Couture Holly Jolly Christmas Collection). I just couldn't resist buying them!
To make my card base, I took a 12x12 sheet of white shimmer cardstock and cut it in half. Then I folded one of the 6X12 pieces in half to make a 6x6 card base. I used the largest die in the ornament set to cut out my card. I simply left a little room up by the fold where I taped the die down so as not to cut the card into 2 separate pieces. Since I planned to use the ornament topper to cover the fold, I wasn't worried about the top not being perfectly rounded.
At first I was going to layer this with silver card die cut with the various sizes of dies, but when I did that, I didn't like the look as much as I thought I would. So I decided to emboss the card with the dies instead. I like the elegance of the white card with just a couple silver elements (the smallest die and the ornament topper) and the fun candy cane striped ribbon.
Here's a close up of the smallest die and the embossing effects. The holly leaves even have embossed veins in them.
Inside of the card I used one of the Christmas flairs I won from Bossy Joscie, one of the sponsors for Word Art Wednesday's 200th challenge.

Imagine That! "Maggie's Apples" Thank You Card

This month's Imagine That! set for the monthly progressive challenge is a versatile and cute set with an image of a cow with a bushel of apples and some lovely thank you sentiments as well as fall sayings. I needed a thank you card for a friend, so I decided to go with one of the thank you sentiments. I like how this sentiment brings to mind the verse in Psalm 23 about my cup running over.
I started by importing the digi stamp set to my Silhouette Design Studio software so I could size up and print out the elements I needed for this card. The set came with a pre-colored image, so I didn't need to do any digital coloring before printing it out. The set also came with 3 fall digital papers, and I love the apple paper I used here. I drew a rectangle with my tools in Silhouette Design Studio and filled it in with the apple paper. I also sized the sentiment to go on the paper and printed everything out.
I cut out an aperture in my Kraft 5X7 inch card using Spellbinders Gold Majesty Cirlces. What I love about these dies is that they emboss a design outside the die cut area so there's a lovely decoration around where I made my cut out. Then I used the same die to cut out my image. I put transparent cardstock (I bought this from Papertrey Ink) behind the aperture and adhered it with clear micro glue dots. Then I lined up the die cut image-side down onto the aperture, put glue tape on the back of the image, and then folded the inside card over onto it so the image would line up perfectly with the aperture.
I cut out my sentiment with my paper cutter and then used Spellbinders Long Scalloped Rectangles to cut out the mat. I adhered the sentiment with foam squares and then popped up the mat with foam squares as well. I added a little apple "paper clip" I had made using a cut file on my Silhouette and then added some sequins to give the card a little sparkle.
You can see the transparent card stock a little better from an angle.
