Morning Glory Mother's Day Card

My mother-in-law is a wonderful person who has always been gracious and kind to me. The best thing she ever did for me was raising my husband to be such an amazing human being! Seriously, with Mother's Day coming up, I wanted to be sure to make her a special card because I appreciate her so much.

I used Altenew's Build-A-Garden: Morning Glory set for the florals on this card. It comes with a coordinating die set and several sentiments like the "thankful for you" stamp I used here with its coordinating die. I stamped the florals in black ink and then ink blended them using the coordinating stencils that come in the set. The colors I used were all from Altenew: Whispering Woodland Fresh Dye Ink collection, Fresh Lemon Crisp Dye Ink, and Iceberg and Ultramarine Crisp Dye Inks.

I decided I wanted a little texture in the background, so I added Altenew's Garden Trellis cover die that I die cut out of white cardstock to a white card base and then added my flowers using Altenew's new 1-inch wide and 1/16-inch thick foam tape, trimming off the excess parts of the flowers and leaves to fit the A2 card front. Before adding the sentiment, I put the card in my splatter box and used some of Altenew's Carbon Black gouache thinned with a little water to add splatters to the card. There were a few splatters that were larger than I wanted, so I decided to add some of Altenew's Whispering Woodland enamel dots and to put the sentiment over the biggest splatter. I added the sentiment using Altenew's 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape, so it's slightly higher than the flowers.

Dahlia Fun Fold for Mother's Day

I recently attended a class led by the talented Liz Ortiz in which we created a fun fold envelope-style pop up card. That's a mouthful! It features several layers separated by cardstock springs to add dimension when the card is open but to fold flat for mailing. Of course my card doesn't really fold flat because of all the flowers and foliage I added, but I'm going to hand deliver this to my mom for Mother's Day.

To decorate the card base, I added some ink blending with Altenew's Mahogony Bark Fresh Dye Ink to the liners for the 2 back panels and embossed the front layer with Altenew's Cupped Blossoms 3D embossing folder.

I used Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Dahlia April Heater die set and die cut all the pieces using a variety of cardstocks that I watercolored (for the light pink petals of the flowers, the yellow centers, and the leaves) or ink blended (I used Mahogony Fresh Dye Ink on the darker layer of the flowers) to follow the colors of the monthly Inspiration Challenge over on the Altenew blog. The watercolors were from Altenew's Palette Perfection Artists' Watercolor Tubes set. I put the flowers in my splatter box and splattered them with Altenew's Titanium White gouache thinned with a little water. After adding my flowers and green leaves to the layers of the card base, I used Altenew's Zero Waste: Berries and Branches die to die cut foliage pieces to tuck in around my flowers and leaves. You can't really see the envelope shape of the card in the photos with all the flowers and foliage, but you can take a look at the side view photo for a better perspective of the card shape.  I may have gone a little overboard on decorating this card, but it's for my mom, and she deserves a card where I pulled out all the stops! I'm so blessed to have an amazing mom who has always been a help and support as well as a prayer warrior for our family.

The tags on the card were die cut using Altenew's Terrific Tags die set. For the one on the front, I used Altenew's Fine Liner Pen Set to write "Mom," and then I stamped "Happy Mother's Day" using an old Close to My Heart Stamp from my stash onto the watercolored cardstock. I trimmed a piece of burgundy cardstock and embossed it with the same Cupped Blossoms 3D embossing folder I used on the front panel and adhered it to the back and then popped up the tag with the sentiment on it using foam tape. I added a little die cut from the Zero Waste: Berries and Branches set to finish the back.

Pyramid Arrow Card for Creative Creases #102

It's time for a new challenge to begin over on the Creative Creases Challenge blog! For my DT card, I wanted to make a special card for my wonderful daughter-in-law since her birthday is this month. I came across Claire Ottaway's excellent video to create a Pyramid Arrow card here: Pyramid Arrow card tutorial @createdtheottaway, and I watched the video and crafted along to make this card. I hope you'll give it a try! If you do, or if you create any other fun fold creations, please join us over at Creative Creases #102 at this link: Creative Creases #102

To create the panels and die cuts for this card, I did a lot of watercoloring ahead of time and let the watercolor papers dry. I used the following colors from Altenew's Watercolor 36 Pan Set: Coral Berry, Fresh Lemon, Warm Sunshine, and Ocean Waves. I had some greens I had watercolored using Altenew's Palette Perfection Watercolor Tube set awhile ago, also. Everything on the card has been watercolored except the card base and the layer of gold cardstock behind the Coral Berry panels.

I used several fun die sets for this card: Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Daisy set, Altenew's Zero Waste: Berries and Branches die, Altenew's Essential Sentiment Strips die set, and Altenew's Fine Rings die set. For the centers of the daisies, I added Altenew's Brushed Pyrite Shimmer Relief Paste to the die cut center pieces and then sprinkled on some metallic micro beads. Carissa Wiley used beads in her wax seals, and that gave me the idea to try them with the Shimmer Relief Pastes. It gives some good texture and dimension to the flower centers.

After die all my die cutting and flower assembly, I set to work designing an arrangement I liked for the front of the card. I adhered all the pieces to the front of the card using foam tape and Art Glitter liquid glue and then finished the front of the card with 3 gem sparkles from Altenew's Smoky Quartz Gem Sparkles set.

For the back of the card, I die cut a circle using Altenew's Fine Rings: Circles set. I stamped the "have a lovely day" sentiment using a stamp from Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Casual Bouquets set. Then I added another die cut from the Zero Waste: Berries and Branches set.
