Wedding Card

 I made one final card for Altenew's May Challenge, and it's a card for my daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law. They are getting married June 22, and I wanted to make them a special card.

I used Altenew's CYL: Magnolia & Blooms for the front panel, and I stamped, stenciled, and die cut the image twice. Then I scored about 1/4 inch on the sides and adhered that small scored area to the green water color cardstock I had created for the background. I stamped "Happy wedding" using stamps from Altenew's CYL: Bold Bouquet set and then added some pearls, gems, and butterflies. I adhered the green panel to my white 5X7 card base and went to work on the inside of the card next.

For the inside of the card, I embossed Altenew's CYL: Bewitching Rose 3D embossing folder on more of the green water color paper I had created with inks and sprays. Then I added some white pigment ink to the raised parts of the panel so the design showed up better. I sized up the verse from Song of Solomon (I purchased the word art from the Silhouette Design Store) and printed it on purple paper. I then die cut the verse using a Gina Marie Designs die. Both the green and the purple panels were adhered with foam tape.

Then I created another panel using red cardstock that I embossed with Altenew's CYL: Floral Acanthus set. I stamped "congratulations" and "wishing you all the happiness you can imagine" from SU!'s retired Happiness Abounds set on the panel and then adhered it to the card base.

Anniversary Card

This July my sister and brother-in-law will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary, so I wanted to make them a special card. I pulled out a few Altenew sets: Craft-A-Flower: Daisies, Craft-Your-Life: Vintage Tapestry (I used the embossing folder from that set for the green background panel), and "happy" from Craft-Your-Life: Bewitching Rose and "anniversary" from Craft-Your-Life: Bold Bouquet. After stamping, die cutting, and embossing all the pieces, I mounted the flowers with foam tape and the green panel with Art Glitter glue and adhered the panel to a 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 inch kraft card base. I used vellum and water color card stock for this card, and I've been having fun using water colors, ink smooshing, and shimmer sprays to make my own colored card stocks. They have more texture that way, and in this case the green background has some nice shimmer to it that isn't really captured in the photos. I also ended up going over the red daisy with an Ohuhu alcohol ink marker to get the color I wanted here.

Craft-A-Flower Daisies with Vellum

This month in the FB Altenew Fan Group there have been daily prompts to follow for the May challenge, and recently one of the prompts was to use vellum in a card. I decided to use vellum for the base of these flowers and leaves from Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Daisies and die cut the tops from watercolor papers I had used different sprays and inks on. Then I created a background panel for the flowers using white card stock with purple inks. I added that to a top-folding black A2 card base and popped up my flowers using foam tape. A quick and fun card!

Feel Better Soon Card With Alcohol Inks

I recently took a class with Tiffany Solorio and Mary Polanco that focused on techniques for creating alcohol ink backgrounds. I convinced a friend of mine to take the class, also, and we did some fun crafting together on a Saturday morning playing with alcohol inks and different types of papers and then had a lovely lunch together while our backgrounds dried. Some of mine turned out better than others, but I liked all the ones I did on Yupo paper. (I also tried the back of glossy photo paper with pretty good results, but I didn't care for the backgrounds I made on vellum or acetate--I need more practice to make those work!). 

For this card, I trimmed my Yupo paper background to fit a 5x7 inch top-folding card base and then die cut an oval out of it. I saved the oval for another project and die cut a black oval using the same die and popped that up with foam tape. The die cut lilies are from Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Lilies die set, and I used some of the watercolor card stock that I had water colored, ink smooshed, and sprayed to get the yellows and greens here for the flower die cuts. I then colored one of the layers of the flowers with an alcohol ink marker to get a darker shade of yellow so it showed up better.

The "feel better soon" sentiment is from Altenew's Craft-A-Garden: Grand Carnations and was stamped using Distress Black Soot ink.

Cascading Pleats Birthday Card for Creative Creases #83

For my Guest Design card this time, I finally made a Cascading Pleats card. I've been wanting to try this fold for quite some time, and I was surprised at how easy it was! It's a great fold if you'd like to show off pretty pattern paper as there are lots of panels to decorate. After making the card base, I adhered the pattern paper panels to the base and set about stamping several flowers and leaves from Altenew's Mini Delight: Wild Geranium stamp set. I used ink colors that matched the patter paper (it's double-sided paper with lots of pretty spring colors on the floral side, so it was easy to choose some matching inks). I should mention that when I'm stamping multiple images like in this case, I like to die cut the shapes first and create a jig to put in my MISTI so I can quickly stamp lots of the same image in one sitting by die cutting the shapes and then fitting them into the jig to align them perfectly each time. I die cut 24 flowers and 12 leaves, so I have some extras that I went ahead and stamped for a future project. 

I stamped a few sentiments onto the panels of the card and stamped a large floral image (from Altenew's Dear Dahlias set) on the back using a tone-on-tone light lilac ink so my "Celebrate" (from SU!'s Share  A Milkshake set) would show nicely. I popped the flowers up using foam tape for dimension and added a few blue and purple gems to embellish the card. Finally, I added some purple Nuvo drops to the back in all the flower centers.

Hello Card in Red

In a recent challenge on the FB Altenew Fan Group, we were challenged to create a card with a red motif. Challenge accepted! 😁I took out my Altenew Craft-Your-Life Magnolia & Blooms set and stamped the large floral focal point in black. Then I used several shades of red to color it in using the coordinating stencils. I die cut the image and then ran it through with the embossing folder. Then I embossed a red panel with the same image but going in the opposite direction and colored the raised parts of the panel using an Ohuhu alcohol ink marker. It was surprisingly easy to color! I set the embossed and stenciled panel on the red embossed background to get an idea of where to stamp the "hello" sentiment and then stamped the sentiment and adhered the stamped and colored piece using foam tape. I added some red gems in two shades of red to finish this A2 card.

Thanks Card With Sunburst Azaleas

This is my fifth and final card for the Time Out challenge with the theme of Alphabet Magnet Letters. I've really enjoyed this theme and have tried to mostly use Altenew products on my cards since Altenew is sponsoring the challenge.

To create this card, I splattered black, gray, and 2 colors of orange splatters on a white 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inch panel and set that aside to dry. Then I worked on die cutting Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Sunburst Azaleas and leaves out of snippets of water color cardstock I had previously water colored, smooshed, and sprayed with various shades of orange and green. I like to make up lots of my own card stock to use for die cutting, and I tend to take an afternoon or evening and just have fun smooshing, spritzing, spraying, splattering, etc. in various colors. 

Once I had the pieces die cut, I assembled the flowers and then arranged them on the card panel with the leaves. I used Press N Seal to hold all the pieces in place as I began to adhere them to the card panel. I used foam tape between some of the die cut layers of the flowers as well as behind the flowers to pop them up on the panel so this card has lots of dimension. I plan to hand deliver it to my mother-in-law for the pretty hanging basket she gave me for Mother's Day. 

For the sentiment, I used Altnew's Bold Thanks die, and I die cut the letters in my homemade orange water color paper and the shadow in black card stock. To finish the card, I adhered the sentiment to the card panel and then adhered the panel to an A2 card base.

Miss U Fur Real Card

My youngest daughter serves in the Navy, and we don't get to see her very often. She is on our minds and in our prayers every day though. And sometimes I like to send her a note from our dog Smoose just for fun. For this card, I printed a couple photos from the last time she was home (of course she gave Smoose lots of attention while she was here!) and added them to an A2 card I had debossed with Altenew's Dotted Lines coverplate die. I ink blended an ombre look using Altenew's Ruby Red ink and then added some red spray before adhering the photos and adding the chipboard letters. I also added a few sequins to the bottom left of the card. 

For the inside, I die cut 3 shapes from Altenew's Circular Elements die set and spelled out the punny: "Fur real" sentiment using more of the sparkly black chipboard letters. I'm hoping a card from Smoose will lift her spirits as she has a very challenging job with long hours.

Sending Warm Hugs Card

I've recently been participating in the Altenew Fan Group challenge for the month of May, and each day there's a different prompt. One of them was to create a card using a stamping technique. I hadn't tried no-line stamping before, so I decided to give it a go for this card.

First I stamped the outline of the floral focal point in Altenew's Rose Quartz light pink ink. I've normally seen people use light gray ink, but I didn't have any light gray, so I figured the light pink would work instead. After stamping the image from Altenew's Build-A-Garden: Dear Dahlias set, I used the coordinating stencils to color the image using the green, red, and purple colors from Altenew's monthly challenge on their blog. I really like how this turned out. I'm not good at coloring images, so I love Altenew's layered stamp sets and stencil sets that do the shading for me! 

For the background, I decided to emboss the A2 card panel using Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Bewitching Rose 3D embossing folder. It's a very large embossed pattern, and I like how it peeks out from behind the stamped floral focal point. 

To finish the card, I stamped "Sending warm hugs" in white pigment ink onto the focal point, and then I adhered the focal point to two layers of foam to give it some dimension.

HB2U Pop Out Card

My son's birthday is this month, and I wanted to make a special card for him, so when I saw this pop out cut file in my Silhouette Card Making & Paper Crafts FB group, I knew I wanted to try it out for my son's birthday card. A huge thank you to Sabine Harris, the creator of this cut file. She generously donates many beautiful designs to that FB group!!

After opening the cut file in my Silhouette Design Studio program, I chose the ocean-themed paper pack I wanted to use and decided what papers to use for what parts of the card. I used a coordinating card stock for the card base and the mechanism that makes the pop two flaps pop out. 

I adhered the parts together and chose the ephemera I wanted to include. I die cut the wooden rowboat using an Altenew set aptly titled: Wooden Rowboat die set. I colored some of the pieces with my Ohuhu alcohol ink markers and adhered all the pieces together. Then I added foam tape to the bottom piece and a double layer of foam tape to the top panel. I adhered the wooden rowboat with more foam tape (this is going to be hand delivered, so it can be as thick as I'd like 😁. 

For the inside of the card, I kept it simple and added a little bottle from the ephemera pack. I attached a stamped message ("Enjoy your day" from Altenew's Build-A-Flower: Larkspur set) with a bit of twine and popped the bottle and the message up on foam tape. After I took the photos, I added a personal message to the two pop up flaps. This was a fun card design, and I definitely plan to use it for other occasions.

Gatefold Easel Card for Creative Creases #82

I did a set of gatefold easel cards for a few of the homebound moms I send cards to, and I used a Lori Whitlock cut file I purchased in the Silhouette Design store to cut the card base, belly band, and layers. I added some word art of Proverbs 31:30 for the inside panel and picked out some pretty floral papers I wanted to use. I found some coordinating card stock for the card bases and set to work cutting everything out on my Silhouette Cameo 4. Then I glued all the parts together and set to work on the dahlias for the belly band and the stenciled flowers I added to the sentiment panel inside the card. The dahlia dies are from Altenew's Build-A-Garden: Dear Dahlia set. I die cut all the pieces out of various water color papers I had painted on, used Lindy's Magicals on, and/or used shimmer sprays on and then assembled the pieces to create the dahlias.
