Fabric, Ribbon and Lace Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree Card

The inspiration for this card came from Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday challenge. This week we were challenged to create a Christmas tree using scraps of fabric, ribbon and lace. You can view the tutorial here: http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/make-it-monday/

I started my tree with a cinnamon stick. You can use a craft stick or a real twig or whatever you'd like to be the tree base. I love the smell of cinnamon and thought it would add to the festive feel of the card. Then I gathered some scraps of cloth, ribbons and lace that looked to be in the right colors and began trimming them and tying them to the tree. Once I had them all on the tree, I snipped them to make the tree shape.

Then I added some seed beads in copper, gold and silver using Americana Bead and Glitter Glue. I used my Silhouette Pick Me Up Tool which proved invaluable for this job!

Now that my tree was made, I designed the rest of the card. I used an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of burgundy cardstock for the base. I just folded it in half to make an 8 1/2 X 5 1/2 inch base. I chose some pretty holiday patterned paper for the first layer and cut it just slightly smaller than my card front. Then I played around with some dies and came up with this arrangement: Spellbinders Heirloom Legacy die for the metallic green card stock, Spellbinders Majestic Circles die for the burgundy frame under the tree, Papertrey Ink's Movers and Shakers Spinners Die Collection for the opening at the top that the angel "flies" through, Joanna Sheen Signature Dies: Christmas Stars for the star above the tree, and Joy! Crafts Vintage Flourishes die for the angel. Yes, I do have a slight problem with being addicted to dies! There are just so many beautiful ones out there!

I used a Close to my Heart stamp from the "Christmas Story" set for the sentiment in the track the angel flies on.
