Double Z Fold Feel Better Soon Card

One of my best friends recently had back surgery, and I wanted to make a special card for her. I saw Susan Campfield's Trellis Double Z Fold Card here: Linked Together Trellis Double Z Fold Card and modified her card a bit to create mine.

I wanted to use the challenge colors from Altenew's Monthly Inspiration Challenge, so I watercolored 3 sheets of watercolor paper using the following colors from Altenew's Watercolor 36 Pan Set: Coral Berry, Emerald, Warm Sunshine, and Fresh Lemon. After they had dried, I die cut Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: African Daisies set and added a little inking on the flowers before assembling them with Altenew's Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I created the card base using white cardstock and then created the insert piece using the cardstock I had watercolored with a mix of Warm Sunshine and Fresh Lemon watercolors. I die cut a fence die cut from Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Rustic Charm set using Rose Gold metallic cardstock and then embossed it using the coordinating embossing folder from that set. I die cut the rings around the flower centers using that same metallic cardstock.

I used the watercolor paper I had watercolored with the Coral Berry to stamp and die cut the "Feel better soon" sentiment from Altenew's Build-A-Garden: Grand Carnations set.

I added my fence and flowers to the top panel of my insert piece using a mix of Altenew's Instant Dimension Foam tape and Art Glitter glue. Then I adhered the insert to the card base and added the sentiment and some of Altenew's Emerald City Gem Sparkles.

So Grateful Garden Whispers Card

I was recently a Guest Designer for Altenew, and last week they sent me a few more products to create with. The Vintage Motifs background stencil was included in the package, and I have been playing with it non-stop since it arrived! It's such an elegant background! And it looks great with ink blending or pastes and as a full background or a partial background like I did here. So versatile!

For this card, I started by making an A2 card base out of white cardstock. Then I trimmed a heavyweight white panel to fit the front of the card, and I used Altenew's Rose Gold Shimmer Relief Paste through the Vintage Motifs stencil in strategic places. I was going for a mixed media look, so I didn't spread the paste to cover the entire background. Then I set the panel aside to dry.

Next, I stamped, die cut and stenciled the large floral from Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Garden Whispers set. I used Altenew's Bubblegum Dreams and Whispering Woodland Fresh Dye Ink collections for my ink blending.  Then I embossed the stamped and stenciled image using the coordinating embossing folder. Garden Whispers is a great set! There's also a large single flower in the set that is lovely, too.

After my paste had dried, I added Altenew's new 1/8-inch thick foam tape in 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch widths to the back of my floral focal point and attached it to the A2 panel. I trimmed off a bit of the leaves that were overhanging the panel and added them to the top right of the card. Then I die cut the "So grateful" sentiment out of gold cardstock using Altenew's Essential Sentiment Strips Die set. I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to fit behind the die cut sentiment and ink blended it. I adhered the two pieces together and then decided the ink blending was too subtle, so I used an alcohol ink marker to color in the letters so they showed up better. I added the sentiment strip to the card again using Altenew's new 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape. I glued the panel onto the A2 card base and then added another flower from the same set to the inside of the card. I used Altenew's Shades of Purple Fresh Dye Ink collection for that flower that I had fussy cut out of the large floral image. To finish the card, I embossed some gold cardstock using Altenew's Ways to Thank You 3D embossing folder and trimmed the sentiment "Thanks for all you do" to add to the card. I adhered it with more of the 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape. That's such a great size for sentiments!

Thankful for You Poppy Card

Altenew recently sent me some of their new foam tape and their new Vintage Motifs background stencil, and I am loving both!

For this card, I created an A2 card base and then trimmed a panel to fit the front of the card. I saw Bridget Casey (a designer at Altenew) use Altenew's Pearl Shimmer Relief Paste with the Vintage Motifs stencil on a livestream she did during the Card Maker Success Summit, and I knew I had to give it a try because I loved the look of the Pearl paste on the white cardstock she used! It looks even better in person! So much great texture and shine!

After using the Pearl paste through the stencil and letting that dry, I set about die cutting my 3 poppies out of watercolor cardstock I had used Altenew's Palette Perfection Artists' Watercolor Tube Bundle paints on. I used 2 shades of green cardstock for the stem and leaves.

For the sentiments, I used Altenew's Build-A-Garden: Morning Glory set and the coordinating die for the "thankful for you" sentiment. The "You are an inspiration" sentiment on the inside of the card comes from the same set.

I added the poppies and sentiment to the front panel and then added Altenew's new 1-inch wide and 1/16-inch thick foam tape to the back of the entire front panel and adhered it to the card base. This card was too thick for a standard A2 envelope but fit fine in a 5X7 envelope. There are a lot of layers with all the foam tape I used on the poppies, too.

Sending Hugs Fun Fold Card

I was recently a guest designer for Altenew's February 2025 release, and this card features several of the great new products I was given for the release: Build-A-Garden: Peruvian Lily (the floral focal point and the sentiment and coordinating dies), Foil Leaf Background Stencil, Serene Garden 3D Embossing Folder, Whispering Woodland Fresh Dye Ink collection and Enamel Dots.

To create the card base, I used a cut file I had purchased in the Silhouette Design Store. I sized it up how I wanted it and cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo 4. Then I cut pieces of cardstock in white, yellow, and green for the panels and set to work stenciling, stamping, and embossing all the pieces. I decorated the card base with the pieces and then set to work stamping, die cutting, and stenciling the yellow lilies on the front of the card. I also stamped the "sending hugs" sentiment and die cut it using the coordinating dies in the set.

To finish the card, I die cut the coordinating sentiment die out of black fun foam and adhered the stamped sentiment onto the fun foam before adhering the sentiment to the card and adding 3 enamel dots around the sentiment.

Peace and Comfort Magnolia Card

A fellow member of my weekly Bible study recently lost her grandpa, and I wanted to make a special sympathy card for her. I die cut Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Magnolia flower out of 5 shades of blue cardstock and then die cut the pieces for the leaves from the set using 3 shades of green cardstock. The flower center was die cut out of a few layers of fun foam and then out of cardstock I had painted gold using acrylic paint. I adhered all the pieces using a combination of Art Glitter liquid glue and Altenew's new 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape.

I created a watercolored and splattered panel that is 5X7 inches using Prussian Blue from Altenew's Palette Perfection Artists' Watercolor Tube Set for the background of this card. I love Altenew's new Petal Palette and used it for this project.

I felt the magnolia needed something behind it to break up all the blue, so I again used the cardstock I had painted using gold acrylic paint. I die cut the second largest of Altenew's Ornate Nesting Die Set and adhered it to the bottom left side of the card as a background for my magnolia and leaves. Then I added the flower and leaves to the card.

To finish the card, I used a press plate from the Beautiful Butterfly Press Plate set and stamped the "sending peace and comfort" sentiment onto some cardstock I had painted and splattered with some of the leftover Prussian Blue watercolor. I used Altenew's new 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape to adhere the sentiment in place.

Gentle Giraffes Fun Fold Card

My youngest daughter's favorite animal is the giraffe, so when I saw Altenew's Gentle Giraffes die set, I knew I had to purchase it! I'm about to send out a care package for her (she's in the Navy and stationed far away from our family, so I send her regular care packages). Of course I have to include a special card in every package, so this time around, I decided to follow the prompt from Jen Rzasa's last Livestream on the Altenew YouTube channel to make Emily's card.

I started by choosing the fun fold base I wanted to use and trimming and scoring all the pieces for the base and the layers. I used white cardstock and then ink blended Altenew's Desert Night Crisp Dye ink to color the background layers. I added a bit of Altenew's Titanium White Gouache that I thinned with a little water and put on an acrylic block to splatter on the background. Then I adhered the blue panels to the white card base and set to work die cutting.

I used the Gentle Giraffes and Creative Cuts: Houseplants set for the animals, flowers, foliage, and "hugs" sentiment. I ink blended the foliage using Altenew's Reindeer Moss Fresh Dye Ink and used colored cardstocks and cardstocks I had watercolored and/or sprayed for the rest of the die cuts. I trimmed a piece of cream-colored cardstock the same width as the center blue panel and then cut it to look like a hilly area for the giraffes to stand on. Then I ink blended a little Memento Toffee Crunch dye ink onto it and adhered it to the panel.

After I had cut and assembled all my die cut pieces, I adhered them to the card using Art Glitter glue and Altenew's new 1/4-inch wide and 1/8-inch thick foam tape. For the "hugs" sentiment, I die cut a piece of yellow fun foam and adhered the die cut "hugs" to the fun foam for dimension. I hope my daughter will love getting this giraffe-themed card!

Doves in Flight Peace Card

Altenew has a new subscription now called Creative Cuts, and each month, they release a layering die set with a different theme. February's theme was the gorgeous Doves in Flight set, and I just love the 2 doves in the set. I used the larger of the 2 doves for my card below.

I die cut the pieces for the dove and assembled them using Altenew's keyhole system that makes it a cinch to layer the dies where they go to create this beautiful dove. I wanted my dove to have some foliage in his talons, so I die cut some leaves from the Creative Cuts: Houseplants set using white cardstock. I trimmed a section of the foliage to the size I wanted, and then I ink blended the foliage using Altenew's Reindeer Moss Fresh Dye Ink. I glued the foliage to the dove's talons.

I wanted to use the colors from the monthly Inspiration Challenge on the Altenew blog, so I created a shimmery yellow background panel and embossed it with the embossing folder from Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Always Sunshine project kit. Then I die cut the word "peace" out of the panel using Altenew's Fancy Peace die. I die cut the same word out of yellow fun foam and then again out of white cardstock. I ink blended Altenew's Passion Poppy Fresh Dye ink to create an ombré look on the top die cut and then adhered all the die cuts into one stack and pieced the yellow embossed pieces back into place where the peace die fits into the panel. There are a few fiddly pieces with this die, but it didn't take long to get them glued in place. Then I added a piece of yellow fun foam behind the embossed yellow panel and adhered it to a white card base I made. This is an unusual size for a card: 5 1/2 by 5 3/4 inches. I plan to use a 6 x 6-inch envelope for it.

To finish the card, I added Altenew's new 1/8-inch-thick foam tape in the 1/2- and 1/4-inch widths to the back of my dove and adhered it to the card. I can see using a similar design for Christmas cards this year by changing up the background color and using some gold cardstock for the peace sentiment.

Garden Whispers Accordion Flap Card for Creative Creases Challenge

Hello and welcome to the start of a new challenge on the Creative Creases Challenge blog! I'm excited to be joining the talented Design Team over at CCC starting with this month's challenge! What an honor to join the DT of my favorite challenge! I hope you will add all your fun fold creations to our gallery this month! Here's the link: Creative Creases Challenge #101

For my Accordion Flap Card, I followed the instructions on the Iced Images YouTube channel here: 5"x7" Accordion Flap Card. I created a white card base using heavyweight white cardstock and then trimmed all my layers and got to work stamping, coloring, and stenciling.

I used Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Garden Whispers project kit for the sentiments and floral stamp. I stamped and die cut the pieces and then used Altenew's Jazzberry, Fresh Leaf ,and Reindeer Moss Fresh Dye Inks to color the floral focal point using the coordinating stencils that are included in the kit. I just applied more pressure to the highlight layers on the flowers with the same Jazzberry ink I used on the base layer. After stamping, die cutting, and stenciling the image, I then ran it through the 3D embossing folder that comes in the set to give it some dimension.

For the panels of the card, I used Altenew's Patterned Petals stencil set along with Jazzberry Fresh Dye Ink and Altenew's Smoky Quartz Shimmer Relief Paste. For the narrow panels, I just used the Smoky Quartz Shimmer Relief Paste through one layer of the stencil, and for the wider panel in the back, I used all 4 layers of the stencil. For the maroon piece that has the "you are the sweetest" sentiment adhered to it, I added tone-on-tone stenciling using Altenew's Linked Spots and Dots stencil.

Easter Lily Cross Cards

I recently came across a tutorial on YouTube to create a pop-up cross card, and I knew right away when I saw it that I wanted to make some Easter cards with this design. If you'd like the instructions, here's the link to the video I watched: Faith Collection Easter Card Stampin’ Up!. A big thank you to Bethany Bernard for the tutorial.

I used the dimensions given in the video to create a cut file using my Silhouette Design Studio software so I can mass produce these cards, but after cutting out the prototype on my Silhouette Cameo 4, I decided to change the dimensions a little so the card will stand up better. The original design (the card on the left in the first photo) has the cross smaller than the card base panel. I found that by making the piece with the pop out the same height as the card base, the card is no longer wobbly when standing for display.

Both cards feature the Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Stargazer Lily die set for the lilies. I die cut and assembled quite a few of them and then ink blended them with colors to match the Monthly Challenge on the Altenew blog. Hope you can play along with your Altenew products this month! There are several gift cards up for grabs each month for the winners. I made the leaves out of vellum for the first card and added Altenew's Fresh Leaf Fresh Dye Ink to them. For the second card, I die cut the leaves out of white cardstock and ink blended them with the same Fresh Leaf Dye Ink.

For the cross pieces, I used Altenew's Essential Textures: Wood Press Plate and some Ground Espresso Distress ink. I trimmed them to fit the cross and adhered them in place, doubling up on the ones in the middle since the wood pattern goes horizontally rather than vertically. It works fine though since my flowers cover the seam.

To decorate the sides of the cards, I smooshed some of Altenew's Passion Poppy and Pastel Sunrise Fresh Dye Inks onto an A2 card panel, let it dry, and then used the Creative Edges: Lace Die to die cut 2 lace edges. Then I used what was left of the panel after I die cut it for the back of the card. For the second card, I used stamps from the Build-A-Flower: Stargazer stamp set to create a random pattern using the colors I had used for my die cut lilies. I like experimenting and using stamps in unconventional ways like this.

For the sentiment on the back, I die cut the word "Blessed" from Altenew's Craft-Your-Life: Garden Whispers project kit. The "Easter" die is one I've had for years from Top Dog dies which sadly is no longer in business.
