DT Post for the Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge: Paper Piecing

This week over at the Outlawz Twisted Thursday, our twist is paper piecing. For those who haven't tried this before, it's fun and easy! Don't be intimidated! The technique is to print or stamp an image on different papers and then cut out the elements and piece them back together. This way you can use several different patterned papers all on the same image.
For my card, I started with a Craft and Create Couture ornament die and made a shaped card. Then I die cut another ornament out of red glitter cardstock and a border for the ornament out of the same Christmas cardstock I used for the different patterns you see on my image. (The cardstock had rectangles of 12 different Christmas patterns, so it was great for this project.) I glue taped the layers together before working on my digi.
Our wonderful sponsor this month at Twisted Thursday is Ppinkdolls. This digi stamp is named "Kou kou." You can purchase it at their etsy store here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ppinkydollsart
I imported the stamp to my Silhouette Design Studio software and sized it up for this ornament card. I then duplicated it several times on my virtual mat and cut my 12x12 inch cardstock to 8 1/2 X 11 so I could run it through my printer. I ended up doing 2 copies with 8 total images to work with. I began fussy cutting and arranging patterns until I came up with an arrangement I liked. Once I had this little tyke paper pieced, I colored her face with an MEXPY marker and used a black color pencil to color her hair and add a bit more color to the shading at the bottom of the stocking. To finish up, I added a couple metal accents. Then I popped the image up on foam squares and adhered it to the red glitter cardstock.

  8. This is such a lovely card Carrie. Paperpiecing is one of my favourite techniques that I use very often, and you have done a perfect job with it. I love the shape of the card and the little details you have included look great. You have stated that you have used mpexy markers which is good news to me as I have a whole set of these markers and maybe I can use them to colour in instead of buying a copic set, lets see. Thanks so much for sharing your card at Anything goes November link-up, Just keep on creating

  22. Great design Carrie - well thought out & executed! Your paper piecing is fun and adds so much interest with the different papers you chose to use. I really like the two metal elements you added - using something other than paper really makes the eye move around & back to the charming focal image. 40. Carrie, first of all let me thank you for your kind words on my mistakenly sending a second post the following week on the same card because I thought it might have gotten lost in the shuffle from one week to another (the birdcage with flowers cascading down side), really appreciate it.

Secondly, I saw your explanation of what piercing is (ref the particular card you did for the Design Team), and if I'm understanding it right...for this challenge, I think my card with the birdcage is what you call piercing, i.e. the little girl in the picture is an original image, and then her outfit was cut and layered over the original image. I'm not asking you to include this for the challenge, just wanted to understand and confirm if I'm understanding piercing based on my assumption about my card. Pat had also given me an explanation, but still wasn't quite clear on it; but between both, and your confirmation of my understanding it, I'll know the next time.

Thirdly, I didn't want to confuse anyone on the piercing instruction you provided on the November 12th Challenge, but did want to let you know that piercing according to a lot of the tutorials are punched holes in the card, or stitching. And I assumed this was the case as well because of Catherine's, the Junior Guest Designer, card. I know my card counted as piercing with the faux stitching, but like Pat suggested maybe better explanation of what piercing is should be included in the challenge description. There are so many terms in scrapping from one area of the country to the other, so what one might understand as piercing another may not.

Thanks for listening. If you would prever to answer me by email and not use the blog, my email is momrey200431@msn.com
Fourthly, I really enjoy all the challenges at The Outlawz, and seeing everyone's creations and interpretations of the twists.

And wow, forthly...are you serious that you submitted this card to all those challenges....and you have time for this being a wife, mother of 4, tutoring and volunteer work...God Bless you. I'll just come back to your site to see other challenges available...thanks for sharing. This has got to be a full time job.
