This card came about as I was playing around with digital paper piecing using my Silhouette Design Studio software. I had just done the September blog hop over at From the Heart Stamps, and one of the design team members had used the technique for her card. I loved the idea of using patterns I have in my program rather than just filling images in with a solid color like I usually do. I chose to play with From the Heart Stamps "Blowing Kisses" set for my image.
I've also been wanting to participate in Verve Stamps' Viva La Verve sketch challenges, so I made this card using the sketch they posted. (The monthly winner of this challenge gets a $100 gift certificate to Verve Stamps! That's the biggest challenge prize I've seen out there, and I love their scripture stamps!) I paper pieced the hat and mittens with one of my patterns (use the trace feature in the software, then release compound path so you can fill individual elements of the image, choose your patterns, fill in your elements, then group them back together, put them back on the original digital stamp you traced, group that together and then print your image. You can also do a print and cut, but I wanted my snow person cut out with my Spellbinders Splendid Circles die, so I just printed the image and then die cut it with my Cuttlebug. I then used my Marvy Snow marker for the pompon on the hat and for some snow around the bottom. I used Recollections Glitz glitter and then decided I wanted silver glitter instead, so I just added more of the snow marker and sprinkled silver glitter on top. That seemed to match the style better with all the silver effects I have.
I used silver reflective card stock for the snowflakes and long banner, and some silver artisan paper by Jolee for the short banner. I've had that artisan paper in my stash for an age and was excited to finally have a use for it!
The "Christmas Cheer" stamp is from Close to My Heart's "Very Merry Christmas" stamp of the month set from a few years ago. I wanted a little something more on the banners, so I die cut and stamped the set of mittens from Sizzix's "Mittens and Snowglobe Framelits Die and Stamp Set."
I needed a strip at the bottom of the main panel to match the sketch, so I used some snowflake Washi tape from my stash. Then I added some white snowflakes and sequins to finish it up.
I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
