I Dig You Card

This month on the Penguin Palace Stamps challenge blog, there's a sketch challenge. I recently contacted Sharon, the owner of PP Stamps about creating a digital stamp with a construction theme after seeing her darling clear stamps and dies in the Love You Tons set, and within a week, there was a wonderful digital set called You Lift Me Up that includes great construction-themed sentiments and images that can stand alone or work well with the Love You Tons set as add-ons. My son is apprenticing to become a crane operator, so I'm delighted Sharon included a crane in the digital set! Thanks, Sharon!

For this card, I flipped the sketch on its side and created top fold 5X7 card base. I embossed the card base using a chicken wire-themed embossing folder and then did a print and cut of the sentiment strip and images. I colored the sentiment strip to match the sand piles. I also colored the other digis with Ohuhu alcohol markers. I cut out a circle to follow the sketch and stamped a background on it using a SU! stamp from the retired Painted Poppies set. Then I popped up my construction worker with foam tape for dimension.

Sending Loads of Joy Card

The digital set is called You Lift Me Up and features a crane! My son is apprenticing to become a crane operator, so I'm delighted that was included in the digital set!

I embossed the card base using a brick-themed embossing folder and then did a print and cut of the sentiment strip and bricks. I popped the sentiment strip up on foam tape. I also did a print and cut of the construction worker and colored everything with Ohuhu alcohol markers. I cut out a circle to follow the sketch and stamped a background on it using a SU! stamp from the retired Gathered Wheat set. Then I popped up my construction worker with foam tape for dimension.

Miss You Tons Card

This card was inspired by the sketch challenge over on the Penguin Palace Stamps Challenge Blog. I used the digital set You Lift Me Up for the digis here, and I did a print and cut of them before coloring them with Ohuhu alcohol markers. For the circle the mixer is on, I used a SU! stamp from Painted Poppies to create the dirt behind the mixer. I embossed my A2 card using a Cuttlebug embossing folder from way back. I love this construction-themed digital stamp set and created a set of 4 cards for the challenge with it.

You Lift Me Up Card

For this card, I created an A2 card base and embossed it using a sun ray embossing folder. Then I did a print and cut of the sentiment strip and images. I colored the sentiment strip and the other digis with Ohuhu alcohol markers. I cut out a circle to follow the sketch and stamped a dirt road on it using a SU! stamp from the retired Potted Geranium set. Then I popped up my crane operator waving from his crane with foam tape for dimension.

Mystery Monday Stamping 8/28/23 Z Fold Card

Last night on Mystery Monday Stamping with TX Stampin' Sharon, we made a Z-fold card with the clues. If you'd like the measurements and instructions to make a card similar to mine, here's a link to the video: Mystery Stamping, August 28, 2023 - YouTube. Warning: there were several incorrect measurements given for the card design that were corrected over the course of the video, so my suggestion would be to watch the video before cutting your cardstock. 

Lately I've been trying to use up scraps of papers I've saved over the past few years (I gave some away to a family with 5 crafty daughters, but somehow I still have oodles of it!), so I decided to use the scraps from a recent card I made here Carrie's Custom Cards: Sending Hugs And Blessings Birthday Card (carriescustomcards.blogspot.com) on this card. I wanted to use SU!'s Painted Poppies stamp and die bundle, so I gathered my stamps, dies, and papers and cut everything according to Clue #1 in preparation for Mystery Stamping. Then last night I crafted along with the video to create this card. Thankfully I had some extra scraps since a few pieces had to be cut again due to the clues being slightly off in a few places. 

I colored my poppies and my foiled die cut butterfly with Ohuhu alcohol ink markers and stamped the sentiment panel with some fun stamps included in the Painted Poppies set to create a background. Then I stamped the sentiment from SU!'s Potted Geraniums onto the panel. In hindsight, I wish I had stamped that on a small piece of teal card stock and popped it up on foam tape so it stood out more, but I'll keep that in mind for next time. 

I stamped another background stamp from the Painted Poppies set in teal as a background for the purple poppy I stamped and die cut and adhered with foam tape. The decorative circle die cut is from that same bundle, too. 

I die cut a small purple border from the Painted Poppies die set and adhered it to the lower right side of the card for decoration. Then, as a final touch, I adhered the foiled butterfly and a few purple sequins to the front panel.

Tool Bag Card

I recently won the Art Impressions challenge, and for my prize, I chose this adorable tool bag and die set. I finally had a play with it last  night, and it was so much fun! I set up the stamps on my MISTI and used a sticky mat from Sizzix and then die cut a template so I can just make multiple die cuts and pop them into the MIST on the sticky mat to quickly stamp multiple sets. I think this set will see a lot of use since my husband is a licensed contractor and does a lot of carpentry work as a hobby. 

The card base for this card is a side-folding A2 card that I embossed with a woodgrain embossing folder from Theresa Collins. Then I added a panel where I stamped some of the tools from the AI set and then I colored the panel with an Ohuhu alcohol marker. I also added twine to the side of the card. I didn't add other colors to the stamps because I'm entering this card in a challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers that's called "Cream of the Crop" and requires making a card that is mostly done in cream colors. 

For the tool bag, I die cut it with the fold line just below the cut line on the handle so I could make a little mini card with the sentiment inside. Then I glued in some of the tools and added a saw to the inside of the tool bag. I was going to do a print and cut of the sentiment, but it's very short, so I decided to go ahead and cut out a small panel and write the sentiment using an Ohuhu marker. My husband loves puns, so the "The best dad I ever saw" with the die cut saw finishing the pun is perfect for him!

Bendy Pop Up Cards for Book Sale Volunteers

Earlier this month I coordinated the annual used book sale my Friends of the Library group hosts every year. I had a lot of people help out both before, during, and after the sale from the local high school football team who brought up all the boxes of books from the library's basement, to the students who set the books out by genre on all our tables to get ready for the sale, to the volunteers who manned the sale, to the wrestling team who helped take all the unsold books to our town's yearly benefit sale at a local church after our book sale was over. And through it all, the wonderful library staff pitched in wherever needed. The used book sale is the Friends group's biggest fundraiser, so we are so grateful for all the help from our community. I wanted to make thank you cards for everyone who helped out this year, so I searched for a card design that would incorporate a book theme and also have a fun sentiment. I happened to see a teacup on a stack of books and thought of the "To a TEA-riffic volunteer" idea. I used my Silhouette Design Studio software to make a print and cut of the sentiment using the font called "Ami." I chose that font because "Ami" means "friend" in French, and that seemed perfect for a thank you card from my Friends of the Library group 😀.

The bendy pop-up card design is from a Lori Whitlock file I purchased at the Silhouette Design Store awhile back. It was originally a Mother's Day card with a floral design and a Mother's Day sentiment, but I just swapped out the flower bouquet for a stack of books and added a teacup to the top for the focal point. I found some free seamless background digital paper with books on it and then used the eyedropper tool in Silhouette Design Studio to make the top and bottom books in the pop-up stack of books match the colors in the background paper. Using my Cameo 4, I print and cut everything out for a prototype card and thankfully tried it out in my A2 envelopes. It was just a bit too tall for the envelopes I wanted to use, so I resized all the elements and got busy creating 20 cards. Hopefully these cards will help show the volunteers how much we appreciate all their help every year.

Accordion Thanksgiving Cards

 I know it's only August, but since I needed to make 140 Thanksgiving cards for my mom, I thought I would get going on that project so I'll have time to do the 250 Christmas cards I'll be making for her soon! My mom is such a thoughtful person, and she sends out cards to friends, shut ins, and family members for every holiday thoughout the year and expands her already-large list at Christmas. Since I need to create a card design that works well in bulk, I look for fun fold cards that are easy to mass produce. For these Thanksgiving cards, I found the perfect fall-themed card stock at my local craft outlet (the staff there know me very well by now 😁) and bought 75 sheets of it. Each sheet has 9 squares with fall themes on the back and a pattern of pies on the front. I decided to create accordion cards with the paper by trimming it along the rows on the back of the paper and scoring along the lines separating the squares on the back. This leaves the pie pattern paper for the front of the card. 

My mom and I both love puns, and I often try to incorporate them into her cards to give the recipients a chuckle and brighten their day when they receive the card. For this set of cards, since the pattern paper had all those pies on it, I chose a pie-related pun: "Did you hear about the feuding desserts? They didn't see pie-to-pie!" I used my Silhouette Design Studio software to create a print and cut of the pun and added pies to the sentiment using a fun font I found at the Silhouette Design Store aptly named "Pie Y'all." I sized everything up and added a rounded rectangle around the pieces to cut them out. I also did an offset of the rectangles so I could cut some out in orange as a mat layer behind the sentiments. I also created a print and cut of the Happy Thanksgiving sentiment and added a turkey balancing 3 pies from the Happy Turkey font (also from the Silhouette Design Store) to the sentiment panel. 

I always try to add something to the envelope flaps for my mom's holiday cards, and this time I chose the sentiment: "Let our lives be full of both thanks and giving." This was another file I purchased from the Silhouette Design Store.

With Lots of Love Card

I recently purchased a Tonic Studios die set and thought it would make an elegant card to send to my aunt who is going through a difficult time right now. The die set can make a domed card, but I wanted soemthing I could mail without squashing for this card. I'll play with the domed card soon when I can hand deliver the card.

I used cream card stock and gold glitter paper for my colors and added some pretty gold glitter gems for embellishment. The pops of pink foil on the ovals were foiled with my Todo machine and the dies from the Tonic set. I put them on foam tape to add dimension to the card front. I cut three layers of card stock with Hero Arts' Prayers stamp and cut set and glued them together to create a nice sturdy base for the gold glitter paper. The "&" sign is from a Papetrey Ink die, and I cut it using the same gold glitter card stock I used for the back of the "With lots  of love" sentiment and the "prayers" die cut. The pictures don't really show how pretty it is with that touch of sparkle.

The Todo machine I bought several years ago for $5 at a craft outlet is finally off the shelves and getting some use! I experimented with hot foiling using die cuts and embossing folders over the weekend and am so excited to get good results with them. I really struggled to get decent results with my MINC machine, and it can only foil toner-based elements. This is much more versatile.

As You Like It Challenge: Favorite color combination: I have many favorite color combinations, but the look of cream with gold is definitely up there on my favorites list because it looks so elegant. When I'm making an anniversary card, a sympathy card, or a special card like this where I want to create something that is more sophisticated rather than cute (I love cute cards, too, don't get me wrong!), cream and gold are a great combination to use. Sending Hugs And Blessings Birthday Card

A friend of mine shares a birthday with my husband, and I like to make her a special card each year. This year's card design comes from an idea I saw on Lisa Curcio's youtube channel here: (1) Learn How to Make a Double Flap Fun Fold Card for Christmas - YouTube. I should have watched the video more closely as I attached my ribbon in the wrong place 😁(something Lisa mentions doing herself in the video!), but thankfully it didn't ruin the card. But I recommend attaching the ribbon under the top layer of the front flip card rather than the right gatefold edge like I did because then the smaller top card will stay closed when the ribbon is tied. 

I chose some pretty floral papers in colors my friend likes and then the coordinating cardstock colors for the layers underneath the pattern papers and used my SU! paper trimmer and scorer to cut and score all the parts of the card using the instructions in Lisa's video. 

I used Hero Arts' Blessings, Congrats & Happy, and Tulips stamp sets and dies for the sentiments and butterfly stamp on the inside of the card. The word "blessings" was die cut out of 3 layers of cardstock to create a bit of dimension and to give this delicate die cut a bit more sturdiness. The butterfly on the front of the card was created using my Todo hot foiling machine to foil a SU! butterfly die from the Butterfly Brilliance bundle. I foiled the die and then die cut it. It looks like it's been stamped in blue ink in the photos here, but in real life, the blue foil shimmers nicely.

The butterfly stamp and "birthday" word are from Hero Arts' Floral Tulips set and the word "Happy" was die cut using the "happy" die from Hero Arts' Congrats & Happy stamp and cut set. I colored the butterfly stamp in with Ohuhu alcohol markers:
