Hoppy Christmas Card

This week's sketch challenge over at the From the Heart Stamps blog is one of my favorites so far. I just like the look of the design and could think of lots of different stamps sets I could use for it. I ended up going with this adorable frog and his "Hoppy Christmas" sentiment, but really the sketch lends itself to any season or occasion with those 3 strips of patterned paper (or ribbon, Washi tape, etc.) behind the image which could be switched around for any theme.
I went with a 5x7 inch Kraft card base for this card. I tend to use Kraft paper a lot. In this case, since I already had a lot of white on the patterned paper and the image, I wanted to use the Kraft card base to break up the whites and reds.
I imported my digi stamp set to my Silhouette Design Studio software and sized up my image and sentiment. Then I printed them out and colored the image with Copic and MEXPY markers. I used a Marvy liquid appliqué marker for the frog's hat. I applied it and then used my heat embossing tool on it to make it pop up. Here's a close up:
I die cut the sentiment with a banner die from Sizzix and used my paper trimmer for the patterned paper strips and the red cardstock matting. I cut out and embossed the image and mat with Spellbinders Scalloped Circles dies.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:

DT Post for the Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge: Anything Goes

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are having a lovely time rejoicing in the many blessings God has given you and enjoying time with your loved ones.

This week at the Outlawz Twisted Thursday, our "twist" is Anything Goes! This is a favorite theme! Show us anything you make this week!
For my card, I used an image from our wonderful sponsor this month Ppinkdolls called "Christmas Angel." You can visit their store at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ppinkydollsart
I started by importing my digi to my Silhouette Design Studio software and sizing her up. Then I printed her out and colored her hair with Copic Y15, the tree with 2 shades of green colored pencils, the bell handle and clapper with a Sargent Liquid Metals gold marker and the silver star, headband, and bell with a Krylon Silver Leafing Pen. I fussy cut her out and then paired her with a silver Christmas tree die cut with a Spellbinders die.
I made the card base and black oval mat using Spellbinders Heirloom Legacy dies. I adhered the oval mat with glue tape and the Christmas tree with a Zig glue pen. I used glue tape to adhere my little angel.

Inky Impressions Guest Designer Post

I was honored to be asked to be a Guest Designer over at the Inky Impressions Challenge this week! Why not join in at http://inkyimpressionschallenges.blogspot.com/? The theme for this week's challenge is Christmas, so I used Joey & Lynnie's Cookies for Santa digi stamp along with the "Believe in the Magic of Christmas" sentiment, also from Inky Impressions. Check out their store for lots of lovely Christmas stamps along with other themes at http://inkyimpressionsrubberstamps.com/. Don't let the website name fool you--they have lots of digi stamps as well as rubber stamps!

To make this card, I imported the digi image and sentiment into my Silhouette Design Studio software and sized them up the way I wanted them. I did a trace of the image and used the "trace outline" feature to do a print and cut of the image. For the sentiment, I chose a tag cut file, put the sentiment inside and then combined them so I could do a print and cut of them.
After printing and cutting out the digis, I colored the darling image with Copic and MEXPY markers. I used a Marvy Snow Marker for the fuzzy part of Lynnie's slippers. Then I set to work on the card base. I used Spellbinders Enchanted Labels 28 to make a hinge card. Then I adhered the image with foam squares and tied on the tag and button with green floss. Thanks, Shell, for giving me the opportunity to be a GD this week!

White as Snow

This card really stretched me! The SLS Lines image "Voodoo King" is the Outlawz monthly progressive freebie for November, and I have to admit I had some qualms about making a card with him. My first thought was just to sit out this month and buy next month's image to join back in, but as I reflected on it, I couldn't help thinking about the people in Ephesus mentioned in Acts 19:19 who had previously practiced sorcery but then converted to Christianity after hearing Paul's preaching and subsequently burned the expensive scrolls of their former practices. I had the idea of using this image to show God's amazing forgiveness and redemption. No one is beyond salvation if they look to the cross in faith that Jesus paid the penalty for their sin allowing them to receive God's forgiveness and cleansing. It's my prayer that this card may bring hope to anyone struggling with guilt and wondering if she is beyond redemption.
I started with a 5X7 inch Kraft card base because I like the look of snow on Kraft cardstock. I used some Close to My Heart snowflake stamps to cover the card front and embossed them with white embossing powder.
I used my Silhouette Design Studio software to size up the digi and the sentiment and drew a rectangle cut file around them at 2x3 inches. I used the print and cut feature of my Silhouette Portrait. I distressed the image to give the idea of a hard life apart from Jesus. Then I die cut a cross out of silver cardstock using a die from the Spellbinders Crosses 2 set. I used a Krylon silver leafing pen on the sides of my sentiment to make it look more "finished," and adhered the image and sentiment with glue tape. I used foam squares to pop up the cross since it's the focal point here. It's Jesus' work on the cross that provides the hope of forgiveness and redemption.
For the inside of the card, I chose this wonderful verse from 2 Corinthians:
I die cut it with Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles and added lakes from a Cuttlebug die.
Well, I hope this card has encouraged you! If you are already a believer, maybe you have some "scrolls" left to burn from your previous life apart from Christ. Are there some practices in your life that aren't glorifying God? If you don't yet belong to the Lord, I pray that these verses will inspire you to reflect on what is holding you back from the forgiveness and cleansing now freely offered to you. I welcome you to contact me at carrieannsheridan@gmail.com if you have any questions about how to receive Christ into your heart and experience the new life only He can give.
