Cascading Pleats Birthday Card for Creative Creases #83

It's time for a new challenge on the Creative Creases blog where it's always Anything Goes with a Fun Fold project! If you'd like to join the fun, here's the link: Anything Goes with a Fun Fold for Creative Creases #83 (secretstamper.com)

For my Guest Design card this time, I finally made a Cascading Pleats card. I've been wanting to try this fold for quite some time, and I was surprised at how easy it was! It's a great fold if you'd like to show off pretty pattern paper as there are lots of panels to decorate. Here's a link to a video by Tami White if you'd like to try out this fold: (5) 🔴 #FancyFoldCards: Make Stunning Cascading Pleats with Effortless Ease! - YouTube

After making the card base, I adhered the pattern paper panels to the base and set about stamping several flowers and leaves from Altenew's Mini Delight: Wild Geranium stamp set. I used ink colors that matched the patter paper (it's double-sided paper with lots of pretty spring colors on the floral side, so it was easy to choose some matching inks). I should mention that when I'm stamping multiple images like in this case, I like to die cut the shapes first and create a jig to put in my MISTI so I can quickly stamp lots of the same image in one sitting by die cutting the shapes and then fitting them into the jig to align them perfectly each time. I die cut 24 flowers and 12 leaves, so I have some extras that I went ahead and stamped for a future project.

I stamped a few sentiments onto the panels of the card and stamped a large floral image (from Altenew's Dear Dahlias set) on the back using a tone-on-tone light lilac ink so my "Celebrate" (from SU!'s Share  A Milkshake set) would show nicely. I popped the flowers up using foam tape for dimension and added a few blue and purple gems to embellish the card. Finally, I added some purple Nuvo drops to the back in all the flower centers.

    1. Debbie, a jig is just the negative from when you die cut something. It's the paper around the holes left from die cutting, so to speak. You place the jig in your stamping platform and then arrange your stamps to fit inside the holes/die cut areas. Then you can die cut a whole bunch of pieces (without stamping first, so you can avoid having to line the stamped image up with the die and tape it all in place). Then you just place the pieces into the holes they fit in (in the jig) and stamp away! In this case, the 2 flowers in this set were small enough that I was able to die cut both of them twice as well a leaf on the same jig and place that in my MISTI. Then I added the first and second layers of the flower stamps and the leaf stamp to fit inside the holes in the jig and proceeded to add the pieces to the jig and stamp them en masse. Once you have the stamps lined up with the jig, you have perfect alignment every time. It really saves a lot of time if you want to make multiples of something.
