Matthew 17:20 Tri-Fold Card

This week's cards for the shut ins at my church was designed with a Stampin' Up ("Mountain Air") set I won in a recent Creative Creases Challenge. This set appealed to me for several reasons. First, these are amazing stamps for creating nature scenes. Second, I had never tried reversible stamps before, and the idea intrigued me. Third, there are a lot of scriptures that speak about mountains, so I should be able to use this set to design several different Christian cards. I think it will be a versatile addition to my stamp collection. To make the most of these stamps, I wanted to create a scene with some depth to it, so I decided to go with a tri-fold card. My first attempt was based on a card that used letter-sized paper. The disadvantage of that design was that the back panel of the card just flopped down. I wanted it to stand up, so I added a hinged panel to the back of the card. I ended up with a base that was 11 inches in length and 5 1/2 inches in width. I scored it at the 1 1/2 inch mark, the 3 inch mark, the 5 1/2 inch mark, and the 8 inch mark. Then I cut another piece of paper for the hinge that measured 5 1/2 by 3 1/2. I scored it at the half inch mark and folded that over to adhere to the back panel of the base card. The hinge is covered by the blue sky panel once the card is assembled. 

The verse I chose for these cards comes from the passage where Jesus told His disciples: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20-21).  I like how Alyssa Roat summed up this passage: "The Lord has the power to move mountains. Our faith is in Him to do so. Nothing will be impossible for us because 'nothing will be impossible with God'" (Luke 1:37). Here's a look at the card from the front and from the side. You can see how I folded it accordion style. 


I wanted to show the stamp set I used to give you an idea of what stamps are in it. The individual stamps are reversible. So fun! And so brilliant! Each stamp can make a shadow or a more detailed depiction depending on which side you use. I've used the mountain and tree line shadows as well as the reverse side of the moon stamp to make it look like the sun. 


This was my prototype card where I embossed the reverse side of the clouds with white embossing powder and used different colors for the mountains. I chose a verse that wound up being too long to see clearly due to the limited space at the front of the card. In the future, I may use this card design but put the trees at the front, the mountains in the middle, and the verse in the back so I can use a longer verse and still have it be easy to read.

There is a coordinating set of dies available if you don't like fussy cutting. I fussy cut all the elements except the verse on the front of the card (which I cut with my Silhouette Cameo) but may decide to purchase the matching dies in the near future:

I stamped the mountain shadow stamp with Versamark and used silver embossing powder for that layer. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the mountain background has a lovely silver shine in real life:

Zephaniah 3:17 Murio Card

 

Today's card uses a Silhouette Design Studio cut file I downloaded from the Facebook Silhouette Card Making & Papercrafts group I'm in. Sabine Harris is the designer, and she's created and shared many fun files with the group. Thanks, Sabine, for this fun Murio card design and all the other tips and files you've shared in the group! 

I wanted to make an encouraging card for my aunt who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I hope the verse from Zephaniah and the sentiment that our thoughts, prayers, and love are with her will lift her spirits in this difficult time. The good news is that they caught the cancer early. I liked the design so well that I decided to do a set of the cards for the shut ins I write to each week, also. And the verse reminds us that our confidence is in the Lord's love for us. That's the cure for our fears, isn't it?

I die cut a butterfly and a dragonfly for embellishments and embossed the panel with the Bible verse on it with the Stylized Leaves embossing folder by Cuttlebug. The sentiment I stamped on the front was die cut using a Marianne die.

Fall Leaves Thank You Tags

 I recently had a FB Norwex party to earn money towards buying a Norwex mop for my youngest daughter who is in the Navy and moved off base into a house last month. I love my Norwex mop and wanted her to have one for her rental house, so I thought I'd have a party and stock up on a few essentials, too. I wanted to thank my friends who made purchases to help me reach my goal, so I made some special tags to put on homemade blackberry jam for the ones who live locally. I have wild blackberries that grow on my property, and I make about 4 batches of blackberry jam every summer. I thought it would be a lovely gift. For my friends in other states who participated in my Norwex party, I will send thank you cards. 

For the tags, I cut them out using a Gina Marie Designs stitched banner die and then stamped the "Thank You" sentiment and some small leaves on the tag. I used a Paper Studio embossing folder (called "Leaves") to emboss leaves on the tag after stamping my sentiment and leaves. Then I added some chipboard sentiments/illustrations from a fall-themed chipboard set. I created a spot for the ribbon by using a hole punch and then used some brown ribbon to attach the tags to the jam jars. 

For the thank you card, I created a banner-shaped card using the same Gina Marie Designs stitched banner set I used for the tags but in a larger size. I cut out a banner for the front and then made the banner-shaped card by placing a piece of folded paper just inside the cutting edge of the die on the left side. I adhered the banner to the front after stamping and embossing it. Then I added a chipboard circle with a leaf cut out. For the inside of the card, I stamped another sentiment and added a chipboard leaf after inking the edges to make it stand out a little more.

Gerda Steiner Halloween Slimline Card

I'm loving the new Lawn Fawn slimline card dies I picked up recently! They are so versatile! Here I decided to use the heart cut outs as windows to have my Halloween monsters peek out of. I stamped a few little details like "Ghoulish Greetings," "Boo" and some bats, a mouse, the moon and a star to add a little more detail to the design paper I chose, and then I stamped the sentiment "Boo from the crew" on a Spellbinders die cut for the inside of the card. I thought it was a cute sentiment to use with these darling little monsters from Gerda Steiner Designs.

Proud of You Slimline Card

 

A year ago this month, my oldest daughter committed herself to an in-patient psychiatric hospital for help with her anxiety and depression. It took a lot of courage to take that step, but she was at a very low point and even having suicidal thoughts. Over the past year, she has worked very hard to improve her mental health and has made amazing progress. She changed jobs to cut down on her stress level and commuting time, switched medications until she found ones that worked well for her, continued with counseling, and has made healthy choices in her exercise, leisure time activities, and food choices. My husband and I thank the Lord daily that she has improved so much, and we are very proud of the effort she's made to be healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally. When I saw the challenge theme of "So Proud of You" at the Cut It Up Challenge, I knew I wanted to make a card to celebrate her hard work and remind her of how proud we are of her. Her favorite color is pink, so I used pink throughout the card. She was so touched when I gave her the card when she stopped over yesterday that she cried, but it was a good cry, and she said that she had also been reflecting on how it's been a year since she went into the hospital. What a difference a year can make! So many answered prayers! 



I used a stamp and die set from Papertry Ink for the floral elements, and the slimline dies were from Lawn Fawn. The bow is also a die cut, but I don't know the manufacturer for that one.

Halloween Slimline Card

This week I wanted to play along with a few challenges I haven't had a chance to join yet. I used a free Newton's Nook digi stamp to follow the fall themed challenge on the NN blog and combined it with the My Favorite Things Slimline Card Challenge which has a Halloween theme. I need to make more slimline cards! They are fun to design and fit in a business envelope. I used a few dies for the spiderweb border and the sentiment, candies, and hat on the inside of the card. I colored the adorable digi stamp with Copics and Chameleon markers. I went with a non-traditional spiderweb color because I felt like I was already using a lot of black with the card base. In hindsight, I think a black spiderweb would have shown up better on my design paper.

Grandparents Day Cards

Today I worked on creating some special cards for my parents and my in-laws, all of whom are FABULOUS grandparents to my children and awesome great-grandparents to my new grandson. I feel so blessed to have all four of these AMAZING people in my life! When I saw the theme was Grandparents Day on the Cut It Up challenge blog, I knew I wanted to do something extra special for my parents and my in-laws to celebrate the occasion. 

I chose a photo theme for my cards since I wanted to include some pictures of my adorable grandson! I knew I needed to make the cards bigger than usual to be able to include all the elements I wanted, so I used a full-size letter page that I folded in half to make each 8 1/2 X 5 1/2 inch card. I found an old rubber stamp I don't think I have ever used before that had the sentiment "Picture Perfect" on it, and I finally was able to use a picture-themed set of Spellbinders dies I bought ages ago. The set comes with these adorable little sentiments like "love," "sweet," "smile," etc. Sizing all the little pictures of my grandson was a bit time-consuming, but I like how it turned out, and I know my parents and in-laws will LOVE all the little pictures of Sawyer! 

I also decided to break out my full-sized embossing folders that I rarely use, and I chose this fun pattern:
I used a die for the "Happy" sentiment and its background and used my Silhouette Studio design software to create the "Grandparents Day" sentiment at the bottom and the "To....(Great) Grandparents" sentiment on the inside of the card. I used photo corners to adhere the 4X6 photos to the inside of the cards, too. 

I chose a few different Spellbinder sentiments, but the main elements of the two cards are the same:

 I can't wait to give these sweet cards to my parents and in-laws! I like to pray as I design and create cards for people that God will use the cards I make to encourage the recipient, and this time I asked the Lord to help our parents feel loved and appreciated. They are such a blessing to our family and a true treasure!
